The “GREAT LINE” (in-line mass ascent) is one of the distinctive features and great images of the event. Only the lie of the field and the number of entrants enable this performance.

The hundreds of hot air balloons that take part in the takeoff carefully line themselves up along the runway’s three thousand meters and take off one after another. It is a magical moment, unique in the world.

In 2005, a French legal officer counted 261 hot air balloons along the takeoff runway. Only the upright, duly aligned and ready-for-takeoff balloons were counted.

In 2007, we’ve achieved the challenge of a DOUBLE line between the principle runway and the taxiway.

For 2009, organisers appeal the Guiness World Records to adjudicate the record for the “greatest” in-line mass ascent in the world with 3 records to set:

• Number of balloons on each line (takeoff runway and taxiway)
• Distance covered.
